Sundance!

The Sundance Film Festival started on January 19 and will last until the 29th in our very own Park City. Not only will the streets be filled with celebrities and locals alike, Sundance is a great boost for Utah’s economy. The University of Utah’s Bureau of Economic and Business Research at the David Eccles School of Business did a study on the economic impact of the Sundance Film Festival. They found that last year the festival generated $70.8 million for the state, it also supported more than 1,600 jobs and produced $27 million in publicity, and $6 million in tax revenue.

SLC is Technological!

Salt Lake City International Airport was ranked 8th best in the US for tech travelers! PC World graded the nation’s 40 largest airports on keeping passengers “plugged in at the gate and in the air.” They looked at USB ports, outlets, workstations, and cell service speeds. SLC’s airport also offers free Wi-Fi service that’s faster than the 40-airport average.

New beginning!

The National Unemployment rate dropped to 8.5 percent in December! That’s the lowest the rate has been since March 2009. Transportation, warehousing, retail, manufacturing, mining, and hospitality all contributed greatly to job growth in December. Retail added 28,000 jobs in December alone.

December!

December was a great month, especially for manufacturing! December marks the 29th straight month of growth for general manufacturing. With the recent rise in spending, employment, and consumer confidence the economy seems to be on the right track!

Salt Lake City!

Salt Lake City is no. 6 on the Milken Institute’s Best-Performing Cities list! Milken Institute based the index on job growth, wages and technology production over a five year period. SLC improved greatly over 2010’s no. 49 rank thanks to low business costs that attract high paying jobs in technology and natural resources, such as mining.
