Pioneer Day!

In honor of Pioneer Day, I thought I'd share a recent experience. On my way back from St. George, I stopped at Cove Fort. It's located on I-15 just north of the I-70 turnoff to Denver. It's a really cool restored fort that was built in 1867 to help travelers heading from Salt Lake to Southern Utah, Arizona, and beyond. They have tours of the fort and you go in all the rooms. It's very well done. If you're like me, you've probably seen the signs and just driven on past. However, if you have any interest in Utah or pioneer history, it is well worth a stop. For more info visit: http://www.covefort.info/

Summer Time!

It’s summer, the time when many families head out on vacation! Here in Utah, we are literally surrounded by great places to visit that are within a day’s drive from home. To the north, there is Jackson Hole, Grand Teton, and Yellowstone National Parks. To the south, we have Tuacahn, the Utah Shakespeare Festival, Moab, and St. George. To the west, there is Wendover and the west desert. To the east, we have Mirror Lake, Flaming Gorge, and the High Uintas. Wherever you go, be safe and have fun!

Silicone Slopes!

Fortune Magazine has a lot to say about Salt Lake City! Because many California based tech companies (Adobe, Ebay, Oracle, Twitter, and Electronic Arts!) have moved to our fine state, Salt Lake’s unofficial nickname has become the “Silicon Slopes.” The Brookings Institute has even said that SLC’s workforce is the most productive in America. One example: Josh James founded the software company Omniture while still in school at BYU, then sold it to Adobe for $1.8 billion!

Monument Valley!

One of America’s Most Beautiful Landmarks, according to travelandleisure.com, is Monument Valley, UT. Whether you hike the four-mile Wildcat Trail or drive the 14-mile graded dirt road through the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, the breathtaking red rock views are worth the trip. The most well known monuments are the Mittens, Totem Pole, and the Yei Bi Chai. Since we share Monument Valley with Arizona, we won’t be visiting this July, even with the chance of thunderstorms this week, the temperatures are still over 100 degrees!
